Once you touch down at the Roatán airport, it’s a ~40-minute, scenic drive from the international airport along the main road that runs the ridge of the island and boasts amazing views of both the south and north shores. All you have to do is put Punta Blanca, Honduras in Google Maps, on your phone, and it will take you to Añoranza. We strongly recommend renting a SUV. Our host, Robert can help you book the SUV and bring your rental to the airport to pick you up with welcome drinks.
20 minutes into your drive east, you will go through French Harbor, one of the oldest communities in Roatán and a commercial hub of the island. The Black Pearl, an 18-hole Pete Dye designed golf course is located in French Harbor at Pristine Bay Resort. Little French Key, a guest favorite, is a 5-minute boat ride from French Harbor. Also, the new hospital, Cemesa, which takes U.S. insurance is located here as well as Eldon's Supermarket and Ace Hardware. We recommend stopping here for groceries and any other supplies you may need before continuing east to Añoranza. Both Eldon's and Ace Hardware take credit cards. There is a smaller grocery store about 5 minutes away from Añoranza but they only take cash and have a very limited supply compared to Eldon's which is similar to an American grocery store.
Añoranza is just east of the Garifuna town of Punta Gorda filled with rich traditions and amazing Garifuna cuisine. Right before you get to Punta Gorda there will be a gravel road, Diamond Rock Road, on your right with signs to Camp Bay Lodge, Paya Bay Resort, Marble Hill Farms, and Diamond Hill and Beach Resort. Take it for about a mile until you see the sign for Punta Blanca on your left. If you see the sign for Marble Hill Farms on your left, you went too far. Once you are in Punta Blanca, continue on Punta Blanca Road until you come to a fork in the road with a sign that reads “Añoranza” and an arrow pointing right. It is a loop and one way so take it to the right and it will loop you around to Añoranza. Please let Robert know when you are getting close to Añoranza.
